“Gratitude” is an eternal theme in life, especially gratitude toward our parents who gave us life. Recently, the July Birthday & Gratitude Gathering jointly organised by all branches was held at the Sincerity Academy.

The touching short film Lunch for Heaven drew everyone into its story. A young man prepares a hearty lunch and waits for his mother to come home to share it. As the clock strikes noon, he imagines her pushing open the door…

As the story unfolds, a black‑and‑white photograph suddenly appears. Only then do the watching family members realise that the mother will never get to taste the meal her child has made. Hearts were gripped, and many could not hold back their tears.

Regret leaves an indelible mark on the heart. As the old saying goes: “When children wish to care for their parents, they may already be gone.” Do not wait until loss arrives to feel remorse.

Family members tried making handmade flowers with pipe cleaners. Though most had never tried this craft before, they learned earnestly knowing these blooms would be gifts for their parents. Every petal and leaf was shaped and refined with care, filled with deep love.

Music began to play, and warm light filled the whole room. There was the birthday cake! Smiles of joy and tenderness lit up every face. Everyone sang the birthday song and made sweet wishes. It was an exceptionally warm and romantic celebration.

Director Wu shared his story: before he was born, his mother kept working in the farm fields even while pregnant, right up until labour.

It is our mothers’ selfless toil and our fathers’ quiet devotion that let us grow up free from worry. To us as small children, parents were like omnipotent superheroes to admire. Yet by the time we grow up, they have grown old.

Holding their handmade flowers gently, family members were filled with mixed emotions. Ordinary as these blooms may seem to others, they are surely the most beautiful flowers in the world to their parents.

Though the birthday gathering was brief, its happiness lasts forever. Cherish every moment with those you love. May all good things arrive just as expected in this lovely July.
