The soft May sunlight falls over the community activity centre, where the Good-Ark Good Wives stepped into Huatong Garden No.3 Community for a heartwarming senior care event themed “Neighbourly Love in May, Warmth for the Silver Generation”. Far more than a simple volunteer service, it was a cross-generational conversation of the heart. On this loving 520 day, they shared precious happy moments with the elderly.

01 Health Care, Sincere Care in Every Detail

At the start of the event, the Good Wives acted as thoughtful health guardians. Equipped with blood pressure monitors and glucometers, they carefully took health readings for every elderly participant, patiently shared wellness knowledge and reminded them of daily health tips. Once the measurements were finished, they bent down to trim the elders’ fingernails with great care; their focused expressions spoke of tender consideration for every senior.

02 Fun Games, Laughter and Memories of Youth

The joyful session began, and interactive games quickly livened up the atmosphere. In the “Pass the Parcel” game, bright flowers circulated rapidly from hand to hand as cheerful music played. When the music stopped abruptly, the senior holding the flower might sing an old favourite song, recite clapper rhymes, or give a fellow participant a hug, drawing warm rounds of applause. Those happy grins seemed to slow time itself.

Next came the marble ball game. Everyone got ready and eager to try. Once the competition started, players on both sides concentrated closely on the small balls and skilfully operated their tools. When one player stepped down, another took their place. Cheers and shouts of encouragement filled the air, as if the elders had returned to their vibrant younger days.

03 DIY Handicrafts, Happy Moments of Creativity

For the DIY session, the tables were covered with colourful materials. The Good Wives patiently guided the elders to make simple yet elegant mugwort massage hammers. The seniors wrapped and tied the materials carefully, and soon creative handmade works were completed. Pride sparkled in their eyes as they admired their creations. These pieces were not only fruits of their labour, but also vessels of fulfilment and joy. The elders could take their crafts home to preserve this lovely memory.

04 Surprise Blind Boxes, Warm Anticipation of the Unknown

The much‑anticipated “Blind Box Touch” round brought one surprise after another. The pre‑prepared blind boxes held daily necessities suitable for elderly users. Curious and hopeful, the seniors reached gently inside. When they pulled out an item they liked, their brilliant smiles shone like the brightest sunshine in May.

05 Group Photo, Freezing Wonderful Moments

At the close of the event, everyone posed for a group photo holding their mugwort massage hammers, with the camera capturing countless glowing smiles. This May, we put into practice the spirit of “honouring our own elders, and extending that care to all elders”, helping the silver years shine beautifully.

Years forge wisdom, and warmth passes from one heart to another. Time may take away youth, yet it can never erase deep human bonds. May we all pause amid busy lives, keep sincere hearts, offer more company and care, so that every senior can enjoy their later years bathed in gentle, lasting spring sunshine.
